Beat the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise and sour cream in a medium bowl until smooth and glossy, 1 to 2 minutes.
Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, paprika and garlic until evenly mixed.
Pat the crab dry with paper towels and pick through it for shell pieces, then fold it into the cream cheese mixture with 1/2 cup of the cheddar and the green onions, until the crab is evenly speckled and still in flakes.
Scrape the mixture onto plastic wrap, shape it into a ball and wrap it tightly.
Refrigerate at least 2 hours, until firm enough to hold a clean ridge when pressed.
Unwrap the ball and roll it in the remaining 1/4 cup cheddar until the surface is evenly coated.
Move the ball to a plate and serve it cold with crackers, breadsticks or cut vegetables.
Approximate values per serving.
